Saying ‘no’ to dog fouling

9 April 2008

PRIMARY school pupils in the Horsham District are being invited to design posters encouraging people to clean up after their dogs.

The posters will be entered into a competition organised by Horsham District Council and the winning entries will be displayed around the District in July 2008.

Dog fouling was raised as a concern at a recent meeting of the Southwater Schools Council and in answer to this Horsham District Council is keen to raise awareness of the issue and the problems it causes.

Awareness raising includes a poster competition for primary schools along with an intensive enforcement campaign.

The poster competition is open to all primary school children across Horsham District giving them the opportunity to design a poster that would raise awareness of the potential health hazards and seriousness of dog fouling as well as encouraging dog owners to “bag it, tie it, and bin it.”

Speaking recently, Street Scene Team Supervisor at Horsham District Council Gill Carlow, said:

“The competition aims to raise children’s awareness about dog fouling and create some eye catching posters to inform dog walkers.

“We hope the campaign will remind all dog walkers to clear up after their dogs, but where this is not effective Horsham District Council is also prepared to issue a fixed penalty notice of £50.”

Poster designs must be A4 and can be colour. On the back of each entry should be the following information: full name, age, school and class.

Completed designs can either be sent back independently (please do not fold) or in a batch from the school.

The final date for entries is 30 May 2008.

Poster competition entries should be sent to:
