New bins in Horsham town centre
11 April 2008
EIGHT new on street recycling bins have been installed around Horsham town centre as part of a project to increase recycling opportunities in the Horsham District.
The recycling bins will give members of the public easy access to recycling facilities, allowing them to recycle cans and plastic bottles rather than putting this recyclable rubbish into the town centre’s litter bins.
An estimated one third of litter is recyclable and needlessly ends up in landfill.
Horsham District Council hopes that the introduction of the new recycling bins will divert some of this recyclable element away from landfill and encourage shoppers and town centre visitors to be more aware of their litter.
Speaking about the new bins, Councillor Robert Nye, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability at Horsham District Council, said:
“We hope that the introduction of these bins will encourage shoppers to dispose of their rubbish and recycle materials selectively.
“The Horsham District has an excellent level of recycling and I hope that this will continue to improve with these new facilities.”
If the new bins are successful the Council may install more on street recycling bins across the Horsham District in the future.
