A Virtual Exhibition at Horsham Museum
7 May 2008
8 May - VE Day - the day when World War II ended in Europe; how will Horsham celebrate this momentous event, one of the most important dates in the twentieth century? Like most of the country Horsham will get on with its everyday life; those that lived through it might pause for thought; but for many the 8th will be like any other day.
However should you want to know how Horsham survived World War II, help is at hand. On 8 May 2008, Horsham Museum will be launching on its website www.horshammuseum.org the fascinating and revealing graphic panels from its popular ‘We’ll Defend Our Island’ exhibition held in 2005.
Drawing on a mixture of official reports, personal recollections, illicit and condoned photographs, the panels help explain the background to Horsham during World War II, from the Royal Observer corps to the Patriotic Engineers, Orchard Street bomb to evacuees, it is a wealth of free downloadable information at the click of a mouse.
This virtually new exhibition joins the selection of major exhibitions archived on the Museum’s website covering the Centenary of Scouting and ‘Howzat’ - a celebration of the cricketing heritage of Horsham.
