Complaints about District and Parish Councillors

7 May 2008

Local Government Act 2000 (as amended)
The Standards Committee (England) Regulations 2008

FROM 8 May this year, the responsibility for considering if a District or Parish Councillor may have breached the District or Parish Councils’ Codes of Members’ Conduct will become that of Horsham District Council’s Standards Committee.

Anyone wanting to complain about the conduct of a District or Parish Councillor is asked to submit their complaint in writing in the first instance to:

The Monitoring Officer
Horsham District Council
Park North
North Street
Horsham
West Sussex RH12 1RL
Tel: 01403 215482
Email: standards@horsham.gov.uk

Complaints are then assessed by Horsham District Council’s Local Assessment Sub Committee.

The Local Assessment Sub Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member and cannot deal with complaints which are not covered by the Codes of Members’ Conduct.

Horsham District Council’s Code of Members’ Conduct can be inspected at the Offices of Horsham District Council and online.

Individual Parish Council Codes of Members’ Conduct are available from the Clerk of each parish council.

Complaints forms can be obtained from the council offices or by telephoning Horsham District Council’s Monitoring Officer on 01403 215482.
