Age Concern’s move into new premises
7 May 2008
LAVINIA House in Horsham is the new home for Age Concern thanks to a successful partnership with Horsham District Council.
HRH Duke of Kent will officially unveil the new building and gardens in a ceremony on Thursday 8 May.
A shared vision to build a Centre of Excellence for the voluntary service was the driving force behind the move for the charity, which had previously occupied premises at the David Bryce club in Horsham.
The new site, found at the back of the Drill Hall in Horsham’s Denne Road, boasts an 80 bed care home and a day centre with internet access, quiet rooms, an interactive garden and a range of other facilities as well as a large expanse of office space which is let to local voluntary services.
Speaking of the development, Head of Housing at Horsham District Council Carolyn Antill, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Age Concern has moved to Lavinia House and we’re proud to have been part of the process which facilitated it.
“Age Concern is part of a vital voluntary service and I look forward to seeing its increased capacity in the new premises.”
Cllr Andrew Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Support at Horsham District Council, added:
“This move will make such a difference to older people in the town, who can make use of these excellent new facilities to enhance their quality of life.
“I look forward to seeing the positive impact in our community in the near future.”
The unveiling ceremony will take place on Thursday 8 May, at Lavinia House on Dukes Square, Horsham.
Chief Officer Nigel Tinkler and Chairman Rev. Peter Apted from Horsham District Age Concern will be present as will Horsham District Council representatives Tom Crowley, Chief Executive, and Council Chairman, Cllr Roger Paterson.
