Consultation on Reserve Housing Sites
28 May 2008
AS THE next stage in preparing the planning strategy for Horsham District to 2018, Horsham District Council has published the Reserve Housing Sites for consultation.
This document is at the ‘Preferred Options Stage’ and is open to comment on; it sets out the Council’s proposed strategy for dealing with reserved housing sites and identifies sites to be held in reserve.
The Council has to seek to make sure that enough new homes are built each year to satisfy the 'quota' requirements agreed for the District.
In setting out its provisions to achieve this, the independent Inspectors who examined the Council's proposals felt that there was not enough flexibility to enable it to deal with possible changing circumstances.
They therefore required the Council to identify further sites to be held in reserve, but which could be released quickly for housing, if the annual monitoring of the position showed that there was a shortfall in the amount of new homes being completed.
The document soon to be published identifies possible 'reserve' sites at Billingshurst, Henfield, Southwater and Upper Beeding to meet this requirement.
Consultation on the document will run from 6 June 2008 to 4.20pm on 18 July 2008.
Comments can be submitted online from 6 June or alternatively on a separate comments form available from the Council.
Any comments received will be analysed and considered in the next stage of the Local Development Framework process.
This document will also be available for inspection or purchase from the Horsham District Council offices, Park North, North Street, Horsham RH12 1RL.
The offices are open 8.45am – 5.20pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am – 4.20pm on Fridays.
The document is also soon to be available for inspection in public libraries and help points within the District.
