Cash boost for warmer homes

23 July 2008

THOUSANDS of homes in West Sussex will be warmer this winter thanks to an £920,000 cash boost.

The money will be used to improve the housing conditions of privately owned or rented homes and is the result of a joint bid by six district councils to the South East England Regional Housing Board.

Horsham District residents on low incomes and or benefits aged over 60 or those with a child under 16 can apply for a Warm Front Grant, which could be up to £2,700.

The money will help pay for central heating, insulation and draught proofing making homes warmer and healthier and help cut fuel bills.

The money from the councils’ successful bid will be used to top up the Warm Front Grant, where the cost of the work needed is more than the maximum grant available.

This will mean more homes can benefit from better heating, lower fuel bills and improved living conditions.

Cllr Andrew Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Support at Horsham District Council, said:

“With energy bills soaring it is even more important than ever that houses are better insulated.

“We are delighted to be part of a project which provides a great opportunity to make a real difference to people’s homes and lives.”

To check eligibility call The Warm Front Team, which is administering the scheme on behalf of local councils, on 0800 316 2814.
