Council’s mapping services get a makeover
5 August 2008
HORSHAM District Council’s extensive suite of online mapping services gets a makeover this weekend as essential upgrades to the system are installed.
The upgrades will result in a more accurate and up to date service and have been prompted by a nationwide review of large scale mapping by the Ordnance Survey, the national organisation for producing maps.
The review has resulted in many buildings and features on Ordnance Survey maps being redrawn.
The Council has over 300,000 records geographically referenced against Ordnance Survey mapping, all of which now need to be adjusted to be brought into alignment with the new maps.
The project is being undertaken at a quiet time of year and much of the work will be done outside office hours, but inevitably there will be some disruption to services whilst the switch takes place.
The Public Access system, which allows users to view details and associated plans and documents online relating to planning applications received by the Council, will not be available from Saturday 9 - Tuesday 12 August inclusive. In addition, the map view within the system will be temporarily suspended until Monday 15 September.
The mapping service in the reception of the Council’s Park North offices in Horsham will not be available on Monday 11 August or Tuesday 12 August.
No property searches can be undertaken on Monday 11 August or Tuesday 12 August.
The Local Development Framework Proposals Map will not be available online from Saturday 9 - Tuesday 12 August.
The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by this essential project, but a considerable amount of work has been done in advance to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.
