Youth club urgently needs volunteers

8 October 2008

THE recently launched Broadbridge Heath Youth Club is desperately in need of volunteers to help support the growing number of young people attending.

The youth club, based at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre near Horsham, was launched five weeks ago and is going from strength to strength, with membership increasing weekly and reaching sixty last week (Friday 3 October).

Volunteers are needed to help with the running of the club and also to work with young people.

The club is currently running close to full capacity and joint organisers West Sussex Youth Service and Horsham District Council  do not want to be in the position of turning young people away.

Liz Kerim, Horsham West Locality Youth Worker for West Sussex Youth Service, said:

“If we have more volunteers to help then we could offer more young people more activities – football, dance and arts and craft.

“If you can’t help every week that is fine.  An hour or two as often as you can manage would make such a big difference.”

The Youth Club runs every Friday evening between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre and costs £1 per session.  Young people can turn up on the night but will need to register.

All potential volunteers will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Broadbridge Heath Youth Club is a joint initiative between Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, Horsham District Council and West Sussex Youth Service.
