Third Microbiz Masterclass ensures small businesses are fighting fit

2 December 2008

THE Drill Hall in Horsham got another dose of ‘Microbiz Mania’ when over 100 local business people gathered on 1 December for an intensive burst of networking, together with presentations from three inspirational business professionals from Business Link and asb law.

This was the third Microbiz Masterclass and, in advance of the successful annual Microbiz event on 14 March 2009, the emphasis was on positive opportunities during the credit crunch with a mission to engage, inspire and empower small businesses, plus those thinking of starting a business.

The Masterclass was the brainchild of Horsham District Council (Business Development Unit) and the inspirational speakers were none other than Rachel Crossey and Kerry Kyriacou from Business Link, the national business information, advice and support service dedicated to helping businesses and budding entrepreneurs develop and progress and Partner Greg Burgess from asb law, one of the top UK law firms, committed to providing pragmatic solutions and unrivalled levels of service.

Inspired by the annual Microbiz event, the Masterclasses were launched to give added value to small businesses. The events aim to bring small business owners as well as those thinking of starting a business together to network, and to introduce motivating speakers that can inspire people and provide great advice.

Councillor Roger Paterson, Cabinet Member for the Local Economy at the Council, officially opened the event. He spoke passionately about Horsham District Council's ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering small businesses and the vital role that every small business in the area has to play in sustaining and growing the local economy.

Both Business Link and asb law had the audience spellbound with their presentations. Business Link Advisers presented ‘Plan for Success; Failure is NOT an Option’ – provoking the audience and encouraging them to interact and better understand their businesses. asb law looked at careful cutbacks and strategic planning, giving an insight into how businesses could start to ensure they were in good condition.

Horsham District Council is now looking for all small business owners across the District, whether based at home or in premises and anyone thinking of starting a business, to get in touch and shape the content of future Microbiz Masterclasses.
