Mike moves on

7 January 2009

AFTER eight years at the tiller of Horsham District's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Community Safety Manager Mike Rumble is set to leave the District later this month.

Mike is moving to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as Head of its Parks Police Service, based at Holland Park.  The move will spark a review of how the District Council delivers its community safety obligations and some changes in the structure will result.

Mike joined West Sussex County Council’s Community Safety Unit in 2000 after 30 years service with Sussex Police.

He initially covered Worthing Borough and the Horsham District before transferring full time to Horsham District Council.

Mike founded the Community Handy Van Service which has now carried out 4,500 visits to the homes of older and vulnerable people across the District in partnership with Saxon Weald.

The Horsham District Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership achieved a 9% reduction in crime over the past three years through a balance of pre-offending interventions and a structured approach to tackling anti-social behaviour, working in close co-operation with Sussex Police. This has helped ensure that the Horsham District remains the safest local authority area in West Sussex.

Speaking of his time in the Horsham District, Mike said:

"I have really enjoyed my time in the District and would like to thank all those people from many different agencies and communities who have helped me make the District as safe as it is.

“I am moving from one 'excellent' council to another 'excellent' one and am looking forward to getting my boots back on and spending time at the front end in keeping the parks and open spaces safe for all users and pleasant places to visit.”

Chris Dier, Director of Community Services at Horsham District Council, said:

“Mike has played a major role in establishing the successful operation of the District’s crime and disorder reduction partnership.

“His energy and enthusiasm have been much appreciated and the positive relationships that have developed between the various agencies are a testament to his professionalism and integrity.

“Whilst we are sorry to see him move on, we wish him every success in his new role in London.”
