27th November 2002
FOLLOWING the inaugural gymnastics events held at The Pavilions in the Park Leisure Centre on the weekend of 15th/16th November, a number of "one-off" events are to be held this Saturday 30th November 2002. These events include the opportunity for local residents to view the facilities for the first time. A number of demonstrations etc., are to be staged from 2.30 pm - 7.30 pm on Saturday.
The Centre is now nearly complete and following the final stages of the equipment fit-out and essential staff training, the doors will be fully opened on Monday 16th December 2002. This means that users will be able to make full use of the Centre's fantastic new facilities prior to the Christmas period . . . . and all those New Year's resolutions will be able to start early!

More information about The Pavilions in the Park
The Pavilions in the Park, Horsham's new swimming and leisure complex in the beautiful surroundings of Horsham Park, will be opening for public use on 16 December 2002.
There will be a Special Public Open Day - viewing only - on Saturday 30th November from 2.30pm.
The Pavilions in the Park is a multi million pound flagship sports and leisure facility set in the beautiful grounds of Horsham Park. The complex will provide superb opportunities for sport, fitness and relaxation for a wide cross-section of users, ranging from national and international standard gymnasts to toddlers splashing in the warm shallow waters of the water confidence lagoon.
Conceived as a series of inter-linked pavilions in response to its landscaped parkland setting, the building contains a range of community sports and leisure facilities second to none: The light and airy swimming halls contain an 8 lane competition pool with state of the art moving floor and spectator seating for 360. Indoor and outdoor leisure waters that overlook the park and enjoy a south westerly aspect include water flume, bubble beds and lazy river rides. Dedicated learner and water confidence pools are also included.
As well as swimming, the building contains a large and well equipped health and fitness suite designed to rival those of the private sector, with fitness rooms, dedicated changing area, spa, sauna and steam room with private south westerly balcony overlooking the park. The building will also become the new home of Horsham Gym Club with the provision of a dedicated gymnastics training hall. The sporting facilities are completed by a multi-use hall and separate dance studio.
A double height Atrium provides the entrance to the building and has been planned to provide a public link between Hurst Road and Horsham Park. The Atrium is also the setting for an 80 seat café, as well as housing the main reception and giving access to a creche and indoor adventure play area. High quality materials from sustainable sources have been specified in response to the special nature of the site to safeguard the long term attractiveness of the wide ranging facilities provided.
The Pavilions in the Park has been equipped to an exceptionally high standard. As a safety feature, an innovative CCTV based, computer controlled, "drowning detection" system has been installed, and for added customer convenience and security the changing room lockers are computer controlled.
The 'Pavilions in the Park' will be operated on behalf of Horsham District Council by D.C. Leisure Management Ltd. with the exception of the Gymnastics Training Facility which will be operated as a local and regional Centre of Excellence by Horsham Gymnastics Club.
The Pavilions facilities will be made available for seven days a week from early in the morning until late in the evening throughout the year. A varied and flexible programme of use will be adopted to maximise opportunities for the residents and organisations of the Horsham District. The Pavilions in the Park is a public facility. NO membership is required.
Sport England has contributed £3,563,000 from the Sport England Lottery Fund to the Horsham Leisure Complex scheme - the largest award made to a project in Sussex. David Dolman, Sport England Regional Director said: "We are delighted to support this significant sporting development which will improve swimming and gymnastics facilities for local people of all ages and abilities. The swimming pool will greatly enhance Horsham¹s facilities and, with a dedicated development officer promoting the sport, we expect many
more people to take part."
