Older Couple

The Council is a direct provider of services for older people and also work with a number of organisations to provide additional services, help and advice.


Older Persons Events

The Council organises a number of events to promote older persons services, encourage better communication between young and old people and to provide help and information to older people, carers and those in need of support Watch this space for more information about forthcoming events.


Housing

There is a range of retirement housing on offer in the Horsham district provided by both private companies and Housing Associations. For more information, see our page on Retirement Housing. Living Independently

The Council provides support for older people who wish to remain independent in their own home. We provide an alarm system called Community Link for use in the event of illness, a fall and even to protect against Bogus Callers. For more information see our page on the Community Link alarm. A range of other agencies offer help, support and advice including Age Concern.

A joint Older and Younger Persons' Strategy has been prepared which is out for consultation until 18 September 2006.


Welfare Benefits

There are a range of benefits available to older people and carers including Attendance Allowance, Invalid Care, Severe Disablement and Pension Tax Credits. The Council administer Housing and Council Tax benefits which are means tested and available to people on a low income. For more information, visit our Benefits & Grants page. In addition, the Pension Service holds advice surgeries at several locations in the District giving advice to pensioners about pension credit, attendance allowance and the state pension and indeed any other benefit related enquiry:
