ELECTORAL REGISTRATION

You must be on the Electoral Register to vote. A full canvass is undertaken each autumn when every household is required to re-register but you can also register at any other time if your details have changed. You are not automatically registered even if you pay Council Tax.

There are two versions of the register. Your details will always appear on the full version. You can choose whether your details appear on the edited version.

The full version is used for:

  • elections
  • preventing and detecting crime
  • checking applications for credit

The edited version is available for general sale. It can also be used for commercial activities.

You can register to vote if:

  • you are 16 or over (but you cannot vote until you are 18)
  • you are a British or Commonwealth citizen
  • you are a citizen of the Irish Republic or other EU country

To check if you are registered ring us on 01403 215126.

If you are not registered, you have recently moved or your name has changed you need to let us know.
