PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Whilst the District Council has no direct responsibility for the provision of bus and rail services, it seeks to work with public transport providers to enhance services for the benefit of the community. It is acknowledged, however, that with the exception of those bus services supported for social reasons by West Sussex County Council, public transport provision in the District is largely operated on a commercial basis and so accordingly, the scope for achieving major service enhancements is limited unless they can be shown to be commercially viable.
The District Council does have a role to play in relation to the provision of bus shelters and enhancements to public transport. In relation to bus shelters, the Council will seek to provide more and better facilities by securing funding from developers by way of legal agreements. In the case of Horsham Train Station, the District Council anticipates working with the train operating company, West Sussex County Council, the taxi trade and bus operators to make it a more attractive interchange for the benefit of all users.
