HOUSING STRATEGY CONFERENCE 2007 - READY, STEADY, HOUSE

As part of developing the District's next Housing Strategy for 2008-2013 Horsham District Council Housing Services held a stakeholder conference - 'Ready, Steady, House' - on 19th October 2007 at Lodgehill Centre in Watersfield. The day evolved around identifying the priority actions to be included in the new Strategy which would help achieve its strategic objectives of: Tackling Affordability and Meeting Need, Preventing Homelessness, Improving the Quality of Life for Vulnerable People, Supporting Sustainable Rural Communites and Ensuring We have the Means to Deliver.

We were lucky to have 4 excellent speakers for the day who challeneged and informed the audience. They included:

Bob Lawerence - Homelessness Adviser South East from Communites and Local Government

Paul Rowley - Head of Strategic and Community Planning from Horsham District Council

Jo Lavis - Senior Policy Officer Affordable Housing from Commission for Rural Communities

Ian Copeman - Assoicate from Housing and Support Partnership

Attendees of the day ranged from representatives from tenant and resident forums, to Registered Social Landlords to private developers and community and voluntary sector providers.

Attendees particapted in workshops themed around four objectives: Preventing Homelessness: How can we do it better together?, Affordable Rural Housing: Making it happen?, Affordable Housing: How can we improve supply? and Vulnerable People in Horsham: How can we join up services to make them more accessible?

They also gave their views through our green house, red house fixture.

Feedback about the day included:
