E-GOVERNMENT

Horsham District Council has a very clear mission

‘Working in Partnership, To Secure a Better Quality of Life for All.

We will consult with and listen to the people who live or work within the District and introduce a Community Strategy to promote social, economic and environmental well being.

We will forge partnerships with the public, private and voluntary sectors, to fulfil our obligations to the community at large to provide value for money.

An important measure of our success will be our ability to make a real difference to the lives of people in most need of help.’

Information and Communications Technologies are a central element of delivering this promise. New technologies - call centres, the Internet, smart cards, electronic trading, geographical information systems - are dramatically changing many aspects of our lives. People's expectations of the Council and other public services are also changing.

Individuals and communities are justifiably asserting new rights to information, involvement and consultation in many issues, and demanding accessible services that deliver what they promise.

  • Information and Communications Technologies can change our lives for the better by providing Citizens with better access to information, and the opportunity to develop new virtual communities of interest, experience and identity
  • Learners with access to distance learning, the on-line resources of the World Wide Web and new opportunities in the workplace
  • Businesses with cost reductions through faster transactions, as well as access to new markets and technologies
  • Workers with new employment opportunities, flexible access to training and the possibility of working from home.

Making the necessary cultural and technological changes within our Council requires clear strategic thinking, commonly agreed priorities, and delivery targets that are both realistic and demanding in partnership with our local community.

Through the activities highlighted in this statement Horsham District Council is demonstrating its commitment to deliver e-Government, and build on what we have already achieved.
