POLLING REVIEW
The Electoral Administration Act 2006 (EAA 2006) introduced a duty for all polling districts and polling places to be reviewed by the end of 2007.
The purpose of the review is to:
- seek to ensure that all the electors in the constituency have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances.
- seek to ensure that so far as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places are accessible to all electors, including those who are disabled, and when considering the designation of a polling place, must have regard to the accessibility needs of disabled persons.
In accordance with this legislation, the Council is currently examining all the polling districts, places and stations in the District. A polling place is the designated building or area designated by the Local Authority, within each polling district, in which polling stations will be selected by the Returning Officer. The polling station is the room or building where polling takes place.
The Council recently invited representations or comments on the existing provision of polling places from any elector within the Horsham District, or any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability. The deadline for comments was 24 August 2007. The Council is obliged to publish all responses, together with respondent's details, on the website and to make printed copies available for public inspection.
PLEASE NOTE: The period for comments has now closed.
A copy of the advert giving formal notice of the Review is available.
The schedule on the Polling Stations page gives a list of all polling stations in the District together with any comments from the Council and a link to a map of each Polling District.
