Do I need building regulations approval?

The best way to find out if you need building regulations approval is to check our list of projects that do not require approval and read the right LABC guide for your project.

Projects that do not require building regulations approval

  • Emergency boiler repairs
  • Adding power points or lighting points, or any other alterations to existing electrical circuits (except around baths and showers)
  • Like-for-like replacements of baths, toilets, basins and sinks
  • Most repairs, replacements and maintenance work

Some work can be carried out without needing building regulation approval if the installer is registered with a competent persons scheme.
