The Big Conversation

Cllr Jonathan Chowen, Leader of Horsham District Council, is committed to entering into a conversation with the community about some of the key issues which we are facing as a District.

As part of this work three public meetings took place across the District between 4 and 19 May 2022, hosted by Cllr Chowen, some of his Cabinet and the Council’s Chief Executive.

Thank you to all those who attended and made the public meetings such useful discussion forums. The questions and answers raised at the three public meetings have been collated and are published below.  Feedback from the sessions will feed into the Council’s future strategies including the Corporate Plan and the emerging Local Plan.

Topics discussed included:

  • The Climate and Environment
    How the Council is reducing its own emissions with a new three year Carbon Reduction Action Plan and a discussion on how the Council can work with our residents, businesses and community groups to address the climate emergency. Related topics included Wilder Horsham District and the work the Council is undertaking with its partner the Sussex Wildlife Trust to help wildlife thrive across the District.
  • The Local Plan and Water Neutrality
    Any new development in Horsham District is now required to be ‘Water Neutral’. Understand more about this topic and what impact it will have on our emerging Local Plan. The session also provided an opportunity to understand how we can deliver a robust local plan for the community.
  • HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
    An opportunity to learn more about our plans to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the bank Holiday weekend of 2-5 June 2022.
