Statement of accounts
A statement of accounts is a record of the Council's spending in a year. It is an important element in demonstrating the stewardship of public money and includes:
- An overview of the Council's accounts
- Comment on the financial performance the efficiency and effectiveness in the use of resources
- Core financial statements, including income and expenditure, movement in reserves, the balance sheets and cash flow statement
Statement of Accounts 2019
It is the responsibility of the Director of Corporate Resources to ensure the preparation of the Statement of Accounts is in accordance with statutory and accounting requirements.
The period of public inspection for interested members of the public to exercise their statutory right to inspect the accounts was notified in advance in May 2019.
The draft Annual Governance Statement for 2018-19 was reviewed by the Audit Committee at the meeting on 10 April 2019 and the final Annual Governance Statement was approved at the Audit Committee on 11 July 2019.
The Statement of Accounts is prepared each year by 31 May, and then audited. The audit findings in the Audit Results Report were presented to the Audit Committee at the meeting on 11 July 2019. Please also find attached our Annual Audit Letter.
Having resolved the technical accounting issue in relation to IFRS 9 on 3 September 2019, the external audit of the statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2019 has now been completed by our external auditors EY LLP.
