Neighbourhood Wardens promote Road Safety Week across Horsham District

As part of Road Safety Week (16 - 22 November), Horsham District Council’s Neighbourhood Warden teams engaged with members of the public to give advice and share safety tips.

Pulborough Wardens were on hand to speak with drivers about anti-social driving and parking around the area of St Mary’s School .They also talked to parents, who appreciated the support as children’s safety is paramount on the school run.

Horsham Wardens engaged with cyclists in West Street and Middle Street to remind them that cycling is not permitted there. They displayed No Cycling bollard covers along West Street and engaged with over 20 people about cycling, electric scooters and road safety.

In Storrington the wardens talked to parents at Storrington Primary School about not parking on the double yellow lines and zig zag lines. They also supported the local speed watch group and gave the  pre-school ‘Little Bears’ packs that included a colouring book and crayons, and a safety reflective snap band to wear (pictured).

The wardens in Billingshurst, Steyning, Bramber & Upper Beeding engaged with the public on road safety matters. And Southwater wardens supported the local Lollypop person for a few days and interacted with the school children and parents.

As an early Road Safety event, during the October half- term the Ashington wardens held bike safety events which included a free bike safety check by Tom Hunter from The Bike Side in Partridge Green.  Free bike lights were handed out at the event.

All warden teams had ‘No Need To Speed’ signs that they used in their parishes and all took to Twitter to promote their activity.

If anyone witnesses any poor driving or anti-social use of a vehicle, they should report it to Operation Crackdown - a joint initiative by Sussex Police and Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.
