Council campaigning for a great summer across Horsham District

17 May 2021

Horsham District Council is facilitating a District-wide campaign to target key information and educational messaging to a variety of residents with the aim of influencing behaviours over the upcoming summer months.

The campaign aims to do this by encouraging residents to respect one another and the environment, and think about their actions under the banner of ‘We all deserve a great summer’.

After the difficult times of 2020 as a result of the pandemic, the Council has teamed forces with Sussex Police, local youth workers 4TheYouth, Sussex Clubs for Young People, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, West Sussex Mediation Service, the Southwater Youth Worker and neighbourhood watch schemes as key partners, as well as its own Neighbourhood Wardens, Community Development, Parks and Countryside, Anti-social Behaviour and Environmental Health teams, to develop the campaign which will run from May to the end of August 2021.

This broad variety of groups will help share the message far and wide across the Horsham District using the hashtag: #SafeSummer21.

The campaign is multi-faceted and will encourage local people to

  • Take pride in our open spaces and not leave litter or fly-tipping
  • Play an active role in volunteering for our community
  • Report crime
  • Respect others when we are out and about.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Community Matters and Wellbeing Cllr Tricia Youtan said:

I think the theme and sentiment of this initiative is spot on.

After the difficult times we have had, we all need some respite and don’t want our summer, as we finally ease out of lockdown, to be spoilt by the adverse behaviour of others.

Please look out for our safe summer messages and share them on social media as much as you can.

If you would like to support the campaign, please email communications@horsham.gov.uk with the subject line #SafeSummer21 and we can share the campaign kit with you.
