Business rates relief

If you have a small business, an empty property, or run a charity or not-for-profit organisation, you may qualify for a reduction in your business rates. This is called property relief.

To check if your business or property is eligible for a reduction in business rates, visit the LGSS website.

Spring Budget 2020

On 11 March 2020 The Chancellor announced extra help for businesses as part of the Spring Budget. There are two main changes that will impact business rate bills in 2020/21:

Retail discount

The retail discount was due to be increased from one-third to 50%, and has now been increased to 100%. The discount has also been extended to include businesses within the leisure and hospitality industries.

Pub relief

Pub relief was due to be reinstated for 2020/21 with a discount of £1,000 for eligible public houses. This discount has been increased to £5,000.

Horsham District Council has already prepared and will be posting out the new year business rates bills for 2020/21 on 12 March 2020, based on the previously announced levels of relief.

If you are affected by these changes we will send you a new 2020/21 business rate bill as soon as possible. If you are not affected by these changes, your bill is correct and you should make payment as detailed on your bill.
