Hackney Carriage Tariff Flag Rate

Please find below the Flag Rate for Hackney Carriage Vehicles, (which in The Horsham District Council Area are White). These rates do not apply to Private Hire Vehicles unless they are fitted with a Meter .

The council’s official table of fares (tariff card) must be displayed in all vehicles with meters fitted.

A taxi driver is allowed to charge more than the metered fare for journeys starting inside the licensing area and ending beyond the district only if this is agreed in advance. In the case of a pre-booked journey starting outside the district, the price/estimate should be given on request by the passenger, and, if so, recorded.

Note: there is no requirement in Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, for the Council to set fares for Private Hire Vehicles. These Fares are set by each individual Private Hire Operator, charges are either to be agreed in advance, or calculated during the journey via the Drivers Phone App.

Additional information for all vehicles

Any assistance dog is carried free of charge.
Payment by credit/debit card is free of charge.
All luggage carried outside of the passenger compartment per box or package: £0.50

Soilage charge

If this vehicle is damaged or soiled by a passenger, the driver or proprietor is entitled to charge a £100 soilage fee to recover all costs of cleaning or repairing such damage or soiling from the passenger/person responsible.
