New Chairman elected for the new civic year

27 May 2021

Following an Annual General Meeting of Horsham District Council on 26 May, a new Chairman has been elected.

Dr David Skipp was elected Chairman of Horsham District Council for the civic year 2021 to 2022 at the Council’s Annual General Meeting which was held under social distancing guidelines in the theatre of the Capitol this year. Cllr Kate Rowbottom was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Council.

Cllr Skipp takes over the role of Chairman from Cllr Karen Burgess, who was Chairman for the civic year 2020 to 2021.

Commenting on his election, Cllr Skipp said:

Newly elected Horsham District Council Chairman Cllr David Skipp 26 May

I am greatly honoured to have been elected Chairman of Horsham District Council for the coming civic year.

2020 was a difficult year for many residents in this District because of the pandemic. Some feeling isolated, others suffering from depression and anxiety and others grieving from loss of loved ones.

However, there is now hope of recovery as we follow the road map out of lockdown.

Hope that volunteer groups, caring organisations and the Council can work in partnership to restore and rebuild shattered lives.

Hope for the growth of our high streets and businesses and consequent increased employment opportunities.

Hope for increasing care and protection for our environment and hope that 2021 can be a positive force for individuals, communities and the District Council.

I look forward to representing the Council at official functions, but also travelling around the District to meet many of the people who live here and serve their communities in this beautiful area.
