Horsham Museum and Art Gallery’s spring exhibition will display the work of botanical photographer, Eleanor Coate, whose photography perfectly captures the plants of Britain, both cultivated and wild. Her framed photographic prints focus on different habitats and seasons and even include a selection of plants from the museum’s own Sylvia Standing Garden.
Eleanor’s work follows the principles of botanical illustration, which has a scientific purpose, striving to represent each plant accurately so that it can be used for identification. Different aspects of the plant are captured throughout its life cycle including the leaves, fruit, and seed heads. One of the most prestigious institutions for botanical art, is the Royal Horticultural Society, who each year awards medals to the most accomplished works within the field. In July 2018, Eleanor entered 6 of her prints into the Portfolio category of the Royal Horticultural Society and was awarded an RHS Gold Medal for her work.
Eleanor’s exhibition will open on Good Friday and will be on display until Saturday 18 June 2022. The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am-4pm and all days across bank holiday periods.
