Family-run Trenchmore Farm in Cowfold, has been selected alongside six other West Sussex businesses as an inspiring case study in a new ‘Low Carbon Business’ video series.
Recently launched by Horsham District Council in partnership with other West Sussex local authorities, the video series seeks to inspire and enable ‘seeds of change’ in local Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and encourages them to think about a few small steps that they could take to embark on a bigger, important journey to reduce carbon emissions and decarbonise their business.
Working to raise their Sussex Wagyu Beef as sustainably as possible, Rachel and Andrew Knowles of Trenchmore Farm practise regenerative agriculture and advocate transparent conversations about what they do. Their feature in the video series explores their long-term vision to restore the depleted Wealden clay soils by farming sensitively, to pass on their enthusiasm for change and to build a successful business. This type of farming is also central to the Councils ground-breaking project, known as Wilder Horsham District which is aiming to improve wildlife and tackle climate change.
Alongside the individual business case studies, MSMEs will also be able to engage with a four-part thematic mini-series on why they should take action on climate change and the wider benefits, how they can begin to cut carbon and why carbon calculation is important. The videos aim to ensure that no business is left behind, as we work towards a low carbon economy.
Commenting on the initiative and the promotional video series Horsham District Council Leader and Cabinet Member for the Local Economy Cllr Jonathan Chowen said:
I am really pleased that our local businesses are embracing the challenges of climate change, recognising that the small changes they are making can contribute so greatly to the bigger picture.
Showcasing their climate friendly approaches in this way will increase awareness of the issues and act as an environmental inspiration for other businesses to help then realise that they too can do their bit to reduce carbon emissions locally and invest in more sustainable methodologies for the future.

The Low Carbon Business in West Sussex video series, has been produced by Low Carbon Leaders and Neil Pringle Productions, jointly commissioned by the West Sussex County and District & Borough Councils, in support of a sustainable and prosperous local economy.
