Folkes Architect group holding their award: Best Residential and Small Commercial Designer

Congratulations to Sussex Building Control (the Local Authority Building Control service for Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council) for scooping three major business awards at the 2022 South East Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards.

Public Service Superstar

Dawn Whamond won the Public Service Superstar award. Working in the construction industry for 22 years, Dawn is responsible for Technical Support, a vital role working with surveyors and customers.

Best Partnership with a Local Authority Team

Work with Mark Alford Design secured the Best Partnership award. This collaboration has a reputation for delivering creative, inclusive, sustainable, and innovative projects. Mark Alford said:

Working as a partner with Sussex Building Control for many years has been a great experience. We have benefitted from the extensive local knowledge and expertise of the team, enabling us to offer an excellent service to our clients and making the whole submission and construction stages much more streamlined and successful.

Best Residential and Small Commercial Designer

Sussex Building Control also nominated partner Folkes Architects who won Best Residential and Small Commercial Designer. Having worked in partnership since 2003, Folkes describe their collaboration as contributing to “a smoother design and construction process leading to more successful buildings.”

We also celebrate excellent nominees:

  • Faye Hooker, Technical Support Officer, who was nominated for Best Newcomer
  • For Best Small Social Housing Development, Pathfield in Rudwick was nominated. This remarkable transformation of six bungalows, all affected by severe subsidence and sitting empty since 2018 has provided six incredible new homes. Although Pathfield didn’t win, the nomination celebrates the successful collaboration between Building Control, Sunninghill Construction and Saxon Weald.

The Regional Winners will now be entered into the national awards which will be announced at the Grand Finals on Friday 27 January in London.

Commenting on the success, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Development Cllr Lynn Lambert said:

It is excellent to see Sussex Building Control being recognised again at these prestigious awards. It is a testament to the high levels of professionalism, expertise, commitment to service excellence and strong working relationships consistently delivered by the team.

Congratulations to all the winners and excellent nominees. I wish them the very best of luck in the national finals.
