Horsham District Council has waived its usual licence fees for street parties for His Majesty The King’s Coronation in May and communities are encouraged to apply soon as the deadline for applications is Friday 24 March.

Special events, including street parties that involve closing a road, require a legal order to be in place which normally requires a fee to be paid to the Council. However, for events taking place over the special Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May fees will not apply and licenses can be obtained free of charge.

There are many ways to get involved in His Majesty The King’s Coronation celebrations, with communities invited to share food and fun together at a Coronation Big Lunch or street party. The Council is offering each Parish and Neighbourhood Council grants of up to £200 towards the cost of their Coronation celebration,

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture Cllr Roger Noel said:

As a council, we’re committed to trying to help communities celebrate in the best and safest ways possible. “Coronation street parties, Big Lunches, and a day dedicated to good causes will bring communities together over the special Coronation Bank Holiday weekend, as we mark this important day in our nation’s history.

We want to see as many people as possible across the Horsham District celebrate this historic occasion, and I’m very pleased that we have been able to offer parish support and waive fees for licenses to help make this possible.
