At a Horsham District Council meeting on 11 October, councillors adopted a new Council Plan which sets out a fresh vision and corporate priorities for the Council for the next four years.

The newly adopted plan identifies four main themes:

  • Supporting local people and communities – providing help in tough times and building an environment where our people can flourish
  • Inspiring greener futures – aiming to be carbon net zero as a council by 2030 and as a District by 2050
  • Building a thriving economy – making us known as an easy place to do business and keeping our high streets thriving
  • Always listening, learning and improving – sharing and involving communities in our decision making.

The Council Plan clearly sets out what the Council is aiming to achieve for its local communities by 2027, influencing its overall policy framework. For the first time, the Council has also introduced an Annual Plan which details the year- on- year actions it will undertake to deliver on its objectives.

In support of the new planning process, Leader of the Council Cllr Martin Boffey said:

“One of our main priorities at the start of our term of office was to agree a new policy foundation and our key actions and deliverables for the next four years.

“Our new Council Plan will influence our policy framework until 2027.This is not intended as a rigid plan, so to ensure that the Plan remains relevant and reflects the changes around us, we are also introducing an Annual Plan. This yearly updated plan will be published each February and will be prepared alongside our council budget setting.

“We have worked to ensure that our new Council Plan puts the needs of our local communities first, enabling our people to live well and live their lives to the full in our beautiful district."
