New sustainable Woodpecker Bridge for Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Published: 05 Jun 2025

Officers from Horsham District Council, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture and Leisure Cllr David Skipp and members of Friends of Warnham Local Nature Reserve gathered at Warnham Local Nature Reserve’s new sustainable Woodpecker Bridge.

The new bridge is double the width of the previous structure which improves accessibility for visitors using buggies, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

The bridge is made from recycled plastic.  As well as providing a more environmentally sustainable solution, the use of recycled plastic negates several key issues which exist with wood including slipperiness, rotting, splintering, and weathering.

The new bridge project was supported by The Friends of Warnham Local Nature Reserve through a substantial funding contribution.
