Horsham District Council has unanimously approved plans to deliver a brand-new community facility in Highwood, Horsham - marking a major milestone in the area’s development.
Following public consultation dating back to 2017, the Council will move forward with constructing a modern community centre alongside a suite of supporting amenities. The site already includes a multi-use games area, playground, and football pitches.
Insights from the latest resident survey in April 2025 played a key role in shaping the vision for the new centre. Locals voiced strong enthusiasm for spaces that support fitness and wellbeing classes, indoor sports, creative workshops, and social gatherings.
In response, the Council has proposed a £2.6 million investment to deliver:
- A small community hall
- Changing rooms, with a focus on supporting female football players
- Public toilets
- A car park adjacent to the football pitches.
Barbara Childs, Director of Place at Horsham District Council, commented:
This project reflects our Council Plan commitment to listen, learn, and improve through active community engagement. I’m thrilled we now have the go-ahead to bring these facilities to life.
At the heart of our plans is an inclusive hub designed to connect people, nurture community spirit, and support the growth of this new neighbourhood and that of surrounding areas. From young families to older residents, we see this space becoming a cornerstone of community life.
I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their views. We now look forward to progressing with detailed designs.
