Horsham Remembers

A respectful act of remembrance will be marked this year at the War Memorial in Horsham’s Carfax on Remembrance Sunday 9 November.

The Deputy Lieutenant of West Sussex will lead the wreath laying followed by Horsham District Council Chairman Cllr Tony Bevis on behalf of the people of the Horsham District. Wreaths will also be laid by John Milne MP, Chairman of the Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion Zäl Rustom, a representative from West Sussex County Council and by the Royal Observer Corps.

The tradition of gathering to pay respect and remember all who have served to safeguard our world and our liberty will be marked as follows:

Sequence of events

10.45 Standards, VIPs and Councillors form up in front of War Memorial. 
10.54 Sound the Alert. Parade Marshal calls participants to attention. 
10.55 Prayers (Rev’d Canon Lisa Barnett). 
10.59 Last Post will be played. Standards to the Dip. 
11.00 Two-minute silence observed. 
11.02 Reveille played. Standards up. 
11.04 Wreath laying . 
11.06 Wreath laying by other organisations. 
11.15 National Anthem . 
11.17 Reflection and blessing (Bishop of Horsham Ruth Bushyager) .
11.20 Dismiss and parade to St Mary’s Parish Church for Service of Remembrance.
11.20 Public access to War Memorial .
11.30 Acceptance of Standards. 

The Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion is the lead organiser of the event this year in partnership with Horsham District Council.

For the first time this year the Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion is inviting all veterans to take part in the Remembrance Parade by joining them ahead of the Remembrance Service. The parade will start at the BT Exchange Car Park on North Street at 10am and march into the Carfax. Alternatively, they can join the parade in the Carfax at 10.30 am. In addition to the service on Remembrance Sunday the Council’s Chairman, Cllr Tony Bevis will join members of the Royal British Legion and members of the public including local school children to pay tribute to and remember all those who have lost their lives in conflict on Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November at 11am. A short service will be held and a two-minute silence will be observed.
