Residents of Hanover Walk Retirement Complex in Storrington can now feel safer thanks to the successful installation of a new community defibrillator, made possible by the initiative of Storrington and Sullington Neighbourhood Warden Chris Poore and the generosity of local residents.

Concerned about the distance to the nearest defibrillator, residents approached Chris to explore the possibility of securing one closer to home. In response, a festive Christmas market and a Bingo event were organised to raise funds. The market was a resounding success, generating some £1,000, with additional donations coming from the Bingo session and individual contributions.

With the funds raised, Chris reached out to a local charity, which helped facilitate the purchase of the defibrillator and provided training for residents to ensure they feel confident using it in an emergency.

Chris commented:

There was a fantastic sense of community spirit throughout this initiative. It’s heartening to see everyone come together for such an important cause. A big round of applause to everyone who contributed—this defibrillator could one day save a life.

The new defibrillator is now in place, offering peace of mind and a vital resource for the local community.
