Horsham District Council has taken swift and decisive action after receiving complaints of waste being burnt on land near to Cowfold.
It has worked closely with colleagues in West Sussex Fire & Rescue and the Environment Agency to minimise the impact of this illegal activity.
The Council’s Environmental Heath and Planning Enforcement teams served notices precluding the continued burning and importation of waste onto the land. West Sussex Fire and Rescue gave advice to the landowner to ensure that the fires were made safe.
The landowner is currently taking steps to remove the waste from his land.
The Council will continue to monitor the site and have requested residents to notify them and the Environment Agency of any renewed burning or importation of waste.
