Holocaust Memorial Day fell on Tuesday 27 January this year. Horsham District Council, in partnership with the Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion, marked the day by lowering flags to half-mast and holding a wreath laying ceremony and candlelight vigil in the evening at Horsham’s War Memorial in the Carfax.
The theme for the UK's Holocaust Memorial Day in 2026 is "Bridging Generations," a powerful call to action encouraging everyone to connect the past, present, and future by actively learning from Holocaust survivors and victims, sharing their stories, and committing to fighting prejudice and genocide.
Each year people from all backgrounds mark the day with ceremonies of commemoration and solidarity, remembering those who were murdered for who they were and to stand against prejudice and hatred today.
