At a Cabinet meeting on 25 March, senior councillors at Horsham District Council approved funding for the development of new affordable homes on a site at Dukes Square in central Horsham.

The new development will consist of nine properties and will include two homes with additional accessibility features for people living with disabilities. They will provide much-needed affordable accommodation for local residents on the Housing Register.

The funds authorised will be transferred to the Council’s housing company Horsham District Homes which was created to provide affordable rented homes on Council-owned land and smaller development sites to ensure on site delivery can be achieved.

Councillor Sam Raby, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities said: “I am delighted that we have approved the funding for this new development to provide these much-needed homes for local households on our Housing Register right in the heart of Horsham town.

“There are very few adapted homes available and it is fantastic that the Council’s housing company can deliver these.

Our new Housing and Homelessness Strategy has a strong focus on delivering more affordable homes for rent which will reduce the reliance on temporary accommodation and help prevent homelessness.”

The provision of affordable housing at Dukes Square is included as a key objective in the Council’s new 2026/27 Annual Plan.
