New mural at Warnham

Horsham District Council is delighted to reveal a new bright and colourful mural to enhance the Attree Hide, which is part of the Discovery Hub, at Warnham Local Nature Reserve.

The mural was created by local artist Lauren Carr who is a Sussex-based scenic artist and prop maker who specialises in mural painting, set building and theatrical fabrication. She has in the past done work for The Capitol theatre.

The Reserve’s amazing millpond forms the dominant part of the over-all design for the mural along with a grey Heron and a Kingfisher which are two of the main species at the Reserve. The public and visitors to the Reserve were asked to vote on the five other species that would be incorporated in the mural. The winning species were:

The Great Crested Grebe– on the lake option
The Emperor dragonfly - on lakeside vegetation
The Common Tern– in the air above the lake
The Yellow Flag Iris– for vegetation in the fore-ground
The Marsh Frog - on the edges of the mill-pond/reedbed.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Well-being, Culture and Green Spaces Cllr Tony Frankland commented: “The mural is truly striking and encapsulates many or our visitors’ favourite features of the Reserve – we are delighted with the end result.

Thank you to everyone who voted for their own favourite species to be included within the mural and special thanks to our artist, Lauren Carr, for doing such an incredible job which really captures the essence of the Reserve.

“Do take the opportunity to come along, visit the Reserve and view the new artwork for yourselves, we are sure you will love it.”
