A teenager behaviour course, ‘Growing Your Teenager’, is set to make a return for the fourth year due to popular demand from July 2026.
Horsham District Council, in partnership with West Sussex County Council and Sussex Police, developed the course with the aim of increasing parents’ knowledge about the types of issues their young people may face as they transition from primary to secondary school.
Developed as a pilot in 2023, the initial course was delivered at Horsham’s Tanbridge House School, this year, the programme will be rolled out across four secondary schools in the Horsham District.
The course content will cover potential issues such as anxiety, stress, drugs and alcohol, low self- esteem and staying safe online, amongst other topics and will contain a mixture of presentations and interactive discussions for parents.
Course dates are as follows:
The Forest School and Millais School will have sessions on Monday 13 July, Monday 14 September and Monday 21 September from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Tanbridge House School and Bohunt Horsham will have sessions on Thursday 16 July, Thursday 10 September and Thursday 17 September from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Commenting on the return of the ‘Grow your Teenager’ programme, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Belinda Walters said: “We are delighted that our ‘Grow you Teenager’ programme has been so well received year on year and has expanded so well since it was launched.
We recognise how challenging it can sometimes be as a parent with teenage children and are pleased that this course provides so many useful tools to help people understand the changes their young person is going through at this time in their lives.
“We are aiming to help achievethe best outcomes for both parents and young people.”
One former attendee commented: “The course was brilliant. It was extremely reassuring to know there are local professional services out there to support parents and teens. Getting advice on communication with them and being aware of the main dangers to look out for going forward was really good. Really worthwhile, thank you.”
