Horsham District Council’s Enterprising Horsham team recently visited G&N in Slinfold, a family-owned healthcare supplier supporting the NHS and private healthcare sectors, to learn more about their commitment to deliver better patient outcomes through innovation whilst minimising their environmental impact.
Established in 1974, the business has evolved from a supplier and distributor of laboratory consumables, to developing its own product portfolio, including their market leading anti-embolism stockings and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention products.
During the visit, the Council team met with members of the business’ management team for a presentation, discussion and short tour, which provided an overview of G&N's operations and ambitions.
More recently, G&N has increasingly been collaborating with inventors and product developers to bring innovative healthcare solutions to market. As part of the tour, the Council team were shown the company’s award-winning Eco-Sharps product range, which replaces traditional plastic sharps containers with an innovative flat-pack alternative made using 95%+ lower-carbon materials.
The solution helps reduce plastic use, storage and transportation requirements whilst supporting healthcare organisations in reducing their environmental impact.
Employing 27 staff, G&N now supplies end users and distributors in over 25 countries in their main markets of Europe, Middle East and Australasia.
Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Property, Cllr Jonathan Taylor, said: “G&N is a well-established, family-owned healthcare supplier with a strong reputation built over 50 years. The business demonstrates a clear commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability, while actively diversifying its product offering and expanding its direct-to-consumer presence.
“With ambitious sustainability goals, a growing focus on product development and opportunities for collaboration with local partners, G&N is well positioned for continued growth while maintaining its core mission of improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
Since the visit we have linked G&N up with the University of Sussex and look forward to continuing our relationship with this business, alongside exploring potential areas for future collaboration.”
Karl Barrett, Operations and Finance Director at G&N said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Enterprising Horsham team and share how G&N is developing innovative healthcare solutions that improve patient care while reducing environmental impact.
"We're proud to be based in Horsham District and to support healthcare providers in the UK and around the world with products like Eco-Sharps.”
The visit to G&N is part of the Council’s engagement programme with businesses within the district that help to create, maintain, and promote a prosperous community and local economy. Keep an eye out for news of future visits.
