Horsham District Council is sending congratulations to three young Horsham District market traders who have earned places in the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) Young Traders Competition after achieving outstanding results at this year's regional finals.
Competing against talented entrepreneurs aged 16 to 30 from across the region, the traders received category awards and commendations for their businesses.
Local Horsham-based business Garden to Jar was named winner in the ‘Grocery' category at the East of England Regional Final in Bury St Edmunds. Founded and run by Horsham entrepreneur Sarah, Garden to Jar is a small, artisanal business. They specialise in the production of high-quality chutneys, jams and other preserves, which they sell through a variety of channels including at Horsham’s Carfax Local Market.
Highly Commended awards went to Dan of Silver Hollow Jewellery and Prakash of Brownie Alchemy in the ‘Arts & Crafts’ and ‘Grocery’ categories respectively, at the London & Southeast Regional Final at Greenwich Market in London.
West Sussex-based Silver Hollow Jewellery handcrafts unique, sustainable, nature-inspired jewellery and is also a regular trader at Horsham’s Carfax market.
Brownie Alchemy is a specialist bakery dedicated to making gluten-free brownies that taste delicious.
All three traders took part in Horsham's fourth annual local heat of the national competition, organised by local market operator Coden Events and supported by Horsham District Council.
Both Garden to Jar and Silver Hollow Jewellery have previously won Horsham's local heat over the years, demonstrating the strength of entrepreneurial talent supported through the District's markets.
The NMTF’s regional events mark an important step towards the sought-after National Young Trader of the Year Award 2026. Garden to Jar, Silver Hollow Jewellery and Brownie Alchemy will now progress to the national finals, taking place on 28 and 29 August in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Commenting on the young traders’ success, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Property Jonathan Taylor said: “This is an excellent achievement for Horsham’s talented young entrepreneurs. Their success at both our local heat and the regional finals highlights the exceptional young talent we have locally.
Our markets provide an important platform for new and young businesses to showcase their products, speak directly with customers and grow. I hope their achievements inspire other aspiring entrepreneurs to explore market trading.
