Horsham District Council is changing how it will collect textiles, small electrical goods and coffee pods from residents’ doorsteps in the future.
From 4 September 2026 the Council will partner with Anglo Doorstep Collections, a national reuse doorstep collection organisation, to continue its free of charge doorstep collection service of small electricals, textiles and additional reusable items from residents.
The free of charge service provides residents with an improved doorstep service, which enables a greater range of items to be put out for reuse, whilst also ensuring that the Council is saving money and resources.
Anglo Doorstep Collections operates one of the UK's largest reuse collection networks, providing free doorstep collections of unwanted household items including clothing, shoes, books, toys, small electricals, kitchenware, tools, linen and bric-a-brac.
As the UK’s largest doorstep collection company, every collection it makes is donated to a selection of UK charities with some £460k being donated so far since 2021. Even without their partnership with Horsham District Council, Horsham District is already their biggest market in West Sussex.
Non-working small electricals which cannot be reused, will still be collected by the Council with bookings via its website as normal at:

By using this new service, residents can help extend the life of reusable items, support charitable causes and contribute towards the Council's waste reduction and circular economy objectives.
The current doorstep recycling service has been operating as part of a wider offering which included the collection of coffee pods. This was funded by the nationwide coffee pod recycling service, Podback. Podback had made the decision to end funding for the scheme as part of a national review and evaluation of its service. As a result of this, the Council has reviewed alternative ways to develop a new coffee pod recycling service.
Podback customers have been contacted directly by Podback with details of how to continue recycling their coffee pods at local drop-off points. Options include West Sussex County Council’s recycling centres, including Horsham and Billingshurst, and some local supermarkets. In addition, Nespresso customers can use a returns service via Royal Mail. Podback is due to add more local collection points for coffee pods across the Horsham District before the end of the year.
