Carers Day of Relaxation and Wellbeing at Council Community Event

Carers from across the District were invited to take some well-earned time for themselves at our successful Carers Wellbeing Event last week.

Held at Henfield Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 9 September, the day brought together a range of free activities and support services and was designed to promote relaxation, wellbeing and social connection.

Organised by the Council’s Health and Wellbeing team, carers were offered the opportunity to step away from their caring responsibilities and focus on their own physical and mental wellbeing in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed indoor bowls, badminton and pickleball, alongside gentle exercise classes. There were also opportunities to take part in creative craft activities, helping participants unwind while trying something new.

Visitors were able to access mini health checks and soothing mini massages, while refreshments were available throughout the day, creating a calm and friendly atmosphere where carers could relax and connect with others who understand the challenges and rewards of caring.

The event was organised to recognise the invaluable contribution carers make to their families and communities, while highlighting the importance of taking time to prioritise their own health and wellbeing.

Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture & Green Spaces, Councillor Anthony Frankland said: "Carers dedicate so much of their time and energy to supporting others, often putting their own needs last.

This event was an opportunity to give something back, offering a chance to relax, enjoy new experiences and access wellbeing support in a friendly and welcoming setting.

“It was wonderful to see so many people taking part and enjoying the activities on offer."

The event received positive feedback from attendees, many of whom appreciated the chance to socialise, try new activities and focus on self-care. Organisers would like to thank everyone who attended, as well as the volunteers, activity providers and partners who helped make the day such a success.
