Young people in Broadbridge Heath can now enjoy improved sports and recreation facilities following the opening of a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and recreation space at Charrington Way.
Funded through Section 106 developer contributions secured from recent new homes developments in the area, the project has been designed specifically with older children, teenagers and families in mind.
The new recreation area features an open, inclusive design with additional benches and social seating areas, helping to create a welcoming space where young people can meet, socialise and be active. The seating provision reflects feedback and best practice showing that informal social spaces are particularly valued by girls.
The project demonstrates how Section 106 contributions can support the delivery of high-quality sports and recreation facilities that promote wellbeing and meet the needs of growing communities.
Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, Cllr Ruth Fletcher, said:
"Parks and open spaces play a vital role in supporting residents' health, wellbeing and quality of life. Creating safe, attractive environments where people can be active and connect with others is a key priority for the Council.
"I am delighted to see this new sports and recreation facility is open for the benefit of young people in Broadbridge Heath, and would like to thank Broadbridge Heath Parish Council for delivering the facility. It provides a fantastic space for recreation, exercise and social interaction, and we look forward to the further enhancements and finishing touches to the site in the near future."
This new facility forms part of the Council's ongoing commitment to investing in community infrastructure and ensuring local residents have access to high-quality recreational spaces close to home.
