Horsham District Council is acting on information supplied by the Food Standards Agency that eggs imported from the Ukraine may contain Salmonella.

A number of eggs, supplied by a company based in Kyiv named Yasensvit Ltd and baring the product code 3UA1012066, have tested positive for the food poisoning bacteria and it may be present in all batches and dates supplied from them. To this end, any eggs stamped with this product code should not be consumed by members of the public and food businesses should withdraw them from sale immediately.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste Cllr David Skipp said: “Although we do not have any evidence that such eggs have been brought into the Horsham District, we are advising the public and – more importantly – businesses to check their eggs and not use any with this product code.

The symptoms of Salmonella are unpleasant and usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.  If you experience any of these symptoms, then you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours, as you can still pass on the infection during this time.”

Where businesses believe that they may have received any of the affected eggs, they should contact the Council’s Food Safety team who will help them undertake an effective withdrawal or recall any that may have been already sold to other business or members of the public.
