Residents are encouraged to update or download the latest version of Horsham District Council’s mobile app which now includes a range of improvements designed to make accessing council services quicker and easier.
Alongside a refreshed design and enhanced functionality, the update introduces an exciting new recycling checker feature. Using a smartphone camera, residents can scan an item and receive instant guidance on how it should be recycled.
The new feature aims to help households recycle with confidence while supporting efforts to reduce contamination in recycling collections.
Incorrectly recycled household items such as batteries, vapes and small electricals can cause fires in our waste collection vehicles and at the waste and recycling centres.
Fires in our lorries cause untold damage and delays in collecting recycling and waste across the Horsham District.
Commenting on the introduction of the new app, Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste and Recycling Cllr David Skipp said: “Our upgraded app makes it easier than ever for residents to access council services, stay informed and recycle with confidence.
The new recycling checker provides instant guidance on how to dispose of items correctly, helping to reduce contamination and prevent potentially dangerous fires caused by items such as batteries, vapes and small electricals being placed in the wrong bin.
“With personalised waste collection reminders and notifications about any changes to collection days, including over the Christmas period, residents can have essential council information right at their fingertips.
"If you haven't already downloaded the app, now is the perfect time to do so.”
The app can send notifications straight to your phone, alerting you to any changes to your collection day and can also give regular reminders of which bins to put out and when, as well as deliver news and other updates.
