The first Local Nature Recovery Strategies for Sussex have now been published
The first Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) for West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove have now been published. These LNRS are a new approach to reverse the decline in biodiversity by agreeing, at the local level, what needs to be done and guiding where this can be targeted to achieve the greatest benefit for wildlife and the wider environment.
Over two years in the making, publication is an important milestone. It marks the end of the strategies’ preparation phase and the start of a new one: implementation.
Shaped by the views, knowledge and dedication of over 2,000 local people, they set out 8 principles, 24 priorities, and over 100 practical actions that can be taken to help create, enhance and connect habitats and support species across our area.
We are happy to add that engagement from Horsham District Council and those working on the Wilder Horsham District Partnership made a valuable contribution to the final West Sussex Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Whilst the Strategy does not impose any new land use restrictions (eg planning restrictions) it will help ensure that nature recovery opportunities are taken into account in planning and other Council decisions.
