New 2020 health rides programme announced

24 Jan 2020

Horsham District Council’s Sports Development team together with local volunteer ride leaders are geared up to organise more healthy bikes rides for 2020.

The 2020 Horsham District Health Rides Programme has just been announced.

The Health Rides are volunteer-led and free of charge, and will kick off their third year on Wednesday 12 February.

The first ride will be an on-road ride to Sumners Pond, Barns Green from the start and return point of the Broadbridge Heath Village Centre.

The rides will then continue until November including another 12 rides encompassing previously popular routes such as Southwater Country Park, the Down's Link to Rudgwick, Pedlar's Way, Warnham and the Shelley route.

The Steyning to Shoreham section of the Down's Link is a new offering as the programme branches out a little geographically.

Commenting on the new Health Rides Programme, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture Cllr Jonathan Chowen said:

“One of our core aims as a council is to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.

“I am delighted that the Healthy Rides Programme was so well received last year and is set to start again for 2020.

“Our District boasts some superbly scenic countryside and there’s no better way to see it than on two wheels and breathing in fresh air. And as for the health and fitness benefits, few activities can match the fun and low joint impact nature of cycling for achieving personal progress.

I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up and enjoy the considerable benefits of the Programme.

The Programme also includes two Starter Rides in Horsham Park designed to support and increase the confidence of people new to cycling, returning after a long break or unsure about the level of fitness required.
