Award recognition for council’s Building Control team

07 Oct 2020

Horsham District Council’s Sussex Building Control team scooped two major business awards at the 2020 South East Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.

First up, they won the Best Partnership award with Gaffney Architecture who are a Horsham based business.

They also secured the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development award for the construction of the Newtimber Close development in Southgate, Crawley, a development of some 44 new homes.

Sussex Building Control was also awarded a Highly Commended status in the Best Local Builder or Traditional Craftsperson category for their work with Crawley based Watson Bros Builders.

The ceremony, usually held at a local hotel venue to celebrate technical design and construction quality across the South East, was held virtually this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Both Horsham District and Crawley Borough Councils were represented by Sussex Building Control.

Commenting on the success, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Development Cllr Claire Vickers said:

“I am delighted that Sussex Building Control have done so well this year in these prestigious awards. I congratulate all the award nominees and the winners for their achievements.

This recognition very much reflects the high levels of professionalism and effective working relationships that have been achieved in delivering such major projects.

Helen Gaffney of Gaffney Architecture added:

“The LABC Awards Scheme showcases the importance of good partnership between the architect and Building Control. Collaboration within the partnership contributes towards a smoother design and construction process leading to more successful buildings.

Working as a partner with Sussex Building Control for many years has been a great experience. We have benefitted from the extensive local knowledge and expertise of the team there, enabling us to anticipate and solve problems as they arise.
